Asset Tracker
Asset Tracker is a native Windows app for documenting everything you own, so that after a fire, flood or theft you can hand your insurer a complete, organised record instead of trying to remember it.
Key features
- Record each item with its name, category, serial and model numbers, purchase date, purchase price, current value and notes.
- Attach photos and a sales receipt to every item — images or PDF receipts.
- Print an insurance-ready PDF report: a cover page with your insurer, policy and claim details, a declaration with signature lines, a table of contents, and every item grouped by room with its photos and receipts included.
- Print a one-page record for a single item when that is all a claim needs.
- Twelve room and collection categories, from Living Room to Firearms and Personal Effects.
- Search by name, filter by category, and sort by any column, with running totals of purchase price and current value.
- Photos and receipts are encrypted on disk for your Windows account. Export decrypted copies whenever you need to attach them to a claim.
- Password-protected AES-256 backups that restore on any PC, with an optional reminder to back up when you close the app. A restore is checked in full before it replaces anything.
- Optional end-to-end encrypted cloud copy in your own Firebase project. Everything is encrypted with your sync password before it leaves your PC, so the cloud only ever holds ciphertext.
- Restore from Cloud brings your whole inventory back on a new PC.
- Export your inventory to CSV for spreadsheets.
- Checks for updates on startup and from the Help menu.
Under the hood
Asset Tracker 0.1.0 is a native C++/Qt 6 application. Your inventory is kept in a local SQLite database, and photos and receipts are protected with the Windows Data Protection API. Backups are WinZip AES-256 archives built with libzip. Cloud copies use AES-256-GCM with a key derived from your sync password by PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, through OpenSSL. Reports are drawn directly to PDF, with PDF receipts rendered into the report by Qt PDF.
Where your data lives
Asset Tracker stores everything locally. Nothing leaves your PC unless you turn on cloud sync. Your inventory is kept in:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\AssetTracker
- db\tracker.db — your items, values and notes.
- assets\ — one folder per item, holding its encrypted photos and receipt.
Preferences, including your insurer details for reports, are kept in the Windows registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AssetTracker. Firebase and sync passwords are stored there encrypted, never in plain text. If you use cloud sync, the encrypted copy lives in your own Firebase project, not on Uhlix servers.
Availability
Asset Tracker 0.1.0 runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and is free to download and use.
